| The double lift, or DL as it is often referred to by magicians, is the act of lifting up two (or three or four) cards from the deck and displaying them as a predetermined amount of cards. This is a very simple effect and can be used in a variety of ways with no preparation needed.
Holding the pack in the left hand casually, the magician (subtly) selects the amount of cards to be turned over. Without the audience knowing, he uses his middle finger to hold a break between the cards he has chosen and the rest of the pack. Finally, he uses his hand to turn the selected cards over. The selected cards are hidden behind the cards which are shown to the audience, thus giving the impression that the magician only selected those cards.
